Is spending a weekend with gorillas on your bucket list?
No, not a weekend with Damon Albarn’s virtual cartoon band ‘Gorillaz’, but a trip to see our great primate cousins as you hike deep into the jungle of The Virunga mountain chain; eight perfectly-peaked volcanoes that extend along the northernmost border of Rwanda.
What's the itinerary?
You’ll spend your first night in a Kigali Guest Lodge in the town of Kigali, but that’s only to get your bearings before setting off into deepest, darkest East Africa! The next day, we’ll transfer you straight to the rainforest-laden Parc National des Volcans and the luxury Virunga Lodge either by 4x4 or on a helicopter flight with stunning views of the national park’s terraced slopes and a vista of the entire Virunga volcano chain.
From basecamp, you’ll venture into the mystery of the jungle to track an endangered family of gorillas, getting up close and personal enough to see human-like intelligence in their eyes. Once you’ve pried yourself away from your ape-ancestors, you’ll be back in time for a late afternoon meal at the lodge.
On your third and final full day in Rwanda you can explore the Parc National des Volcans further: visit the golden monkeys or drive over to Gisenyi and Ros Carr’s orphanage or climb the Visoke volcano. For those inspired by the gorilla tracking, you can also make the short trek to Dian Fossey’s grave.
This trip takes you to the heart of Africa for what promises to be one of the best days of your entire life, but if flying to Rwanda for just four days isn’t quite enough for you, we can tailor your holiday for a longer experience - either way, to Feel Good Inc, click the link!
