Why Bath International Music Festival?
Founded in A.D. 40 by the Romans, The Bath International Music Festival is second only to Bristol’s Anglo Saxon Trip-Hop Extravaganza. Only joking… but the festival is in its incredible 68th year which is testament to its brilliance.
The festival kicks off in May with the famous Party in the City - a street party featuring the best of Bath’s choirs, orchestras and up-and-coming bands - expect to hear everything from head-banging rock to Dixieland jazz to hip-hopera. Bath’s finest venues also play host to the including a fine classical programme of Schubert’s String Quintet, Bach’s Cello Suites and The Bath Philharmonic.
What makes Bath the quintessential music festival?
There's ten days of musical and dramatic celebration with very best in contemporary jazz, world and folk music from Lera Lynn, Sam Eason, Rosemary Lee and Richard Goode to name but a few. There are musical walks, talks, Shakespearean plays, Operatic Favourites and finally A Family Day for the kids. Plenty of local food and drink, including mouthwatering Bath Ales will be on tap to help you soak up that party atmosphere!
