The warm, gooey feeling of altruism on the Desert Relief Riding Expedition

If your recent vacations have felt a little too self-indulgent (read: eating, drinking and partying yourself into an absolute mess), then it may be worth ditching the stinking hangover for something more wholesome on your next adventure.

Namely, taking part in the Desert Relief Riding Expedition. This incredible, off-the-beaten-track experience marries serious Eastern adventure, the warm feeling of helping others, and sand. Lots and lots of sand.

Over the past 14 years, the organization has helped more than 25,000 people living in poverty in India, Turkey, and Ecuador. That's a cool enough feat on its own but wait for it...

They do it on horseback and motorcycles!

Yes, you heard right.

Whoa ....  what does this Desert Relief Riding Expedition entail?

There are several choices of location – from the ancient Thar Desert in Rajasthan to the exotic Amazon jungle (a jungle that, quite frankly, needs no introduction). However, wherever you go, the aim remains the same – to provide humanitarian aid to the people you encounter. Well… the rural population of these areas at least.

And as we mentioned earlier, (remember, just before you got really excited?) there are choices when it comes to the transport you use for your trek. These are in the form of traditional horseback or (slightly less rustic, but instantly cooler) a legendary Royal Enfield Motorcycle!

The relief you provide may be in the form of taking school supplies to local students, helping out in medical camps, or delivering goats to impoverished villagers (the goats have their own transport – they won’t need to hitch a ride on the back of your motorcycle).

Yes.  You may now use the word coooooool.

In Short

  • An epic trek across famous deserts on horseback or motorcycle
  • Stunning scenery (and lots of sand)
  • Help poverty-stricken people across India, Turkey, and Ecuador
  • A guaranteed better feeling than a hangover!
