Why This Ice Palace?
Well, apart from being the world’s first and largest Ice Hotel, each winter global artists have gathered here for the last 23 years to create 50 newly designed rooms using 30,000 tonnes of snow and 10,000 tonnes of crystal clear ice from the nearby Torne River.
After that lingonberry juice and breakfast, there are a host of winter activities that are sure to bring a smile to your permafrost grimace! You can spend your days driving teams of huskies, head off on a snowmobile safari or rent cross-country skis or snowshoeing equipment to head off into the wilderness on your own!
There are two restaurants - the Ice Hotel Restaurant, awarded with the prestigious Werner Vögeli Statuette and the charming Old Homestead Restaurant (800m away) which offers a rustic á la carte menu overlooking the river.
