Are you mad man enough to enter The Iron Man World Championship?
Four days after Valentine’s Day in 1978, fifteen people arrived in Waikiki to take on the world’s first Iron Man challenge. Each received three sheets of paper with a few rules and a course description. The last page read: ""Swim 2.4 miles! Bike 112 miles! Run 26.2 miles! Brag for the rest of your life!""
Now, almost four decades (and exactly two Valentine’s Day cards) later, the Waikiki Roughwater Swim, The Around-O’ahu Bike Race and Honolulu Marathon attract over 2,000 competitors, and this is your chance to be one of them!
Sounds easy! Tell me more...
If your idea of fun is running, swimming and cycling the equivalent of Washington D.C. to Philadelphia, then you deserve a medal. If you want to run that 140 miles amongst black volcanic lava rock, battling forty-five mph ""Ho’omumuku"" crosswinds and 95-degree temperatures in the scorching Hawaiian sun, you need your head examined!
Funny farm jokes aside, Iron Man is the toughest endurance race on the planet - a true hero’s journey that represents the ultimate test of body, mind and spirit.
