Is the Mars One Mission the Greatest Adventure Ever?
The Mars One Mission is quite possibly the most exciting human endeavour since the invention of the snooze button.
Sure, certain advances in medicine, technology, or the selfie-stick have furthered human culture in ways we could never have dreamed, imagined or (in certain cases) figured out how to undo....
But people - we are talking A NON RETURN TRIP TO MARS!
Science Fiction, Fact and Philosophical Dilemmas
One of the truly remarkable goals of the Mars One Adventure is that it will be an entirely global initiative. But even the previous sentence hints at some of the difficulties that will soon be faced by humankind. When we say ‘global’ in the future, which globe will be speaking of? When the first settlers return to Earth for a vacation and a relishing of all things not red and dusty, will they be aliens? Or Martians?
You can almost hear philosophers and science fiction writers scrambling for their journals. Or maybe this writer has just been indulging in the snooze button a bit too much.
But let's face it, the level of work that has already gone into this mission is phenomenal. From the selecting of the Mars 100 – those who will be the first settlers on the red planet - to the creation of Earth-based, simulation outposts that will be used for training and technology try-outs. However in order to truly ensure that when these brave Earthlings change their status to verified Martians, there is always more to be done.
So leave off the snooze button and be part of this historical mission. Join the Mars One Community, even if it's just to donate your revered selfie-stick… the Mars One Mission needs you!
