The Royal Opera of Versailles, located in the grounds of the famous Parisien castle, is one of the most stunning opera houses in the world and now it plays host to the greatest operatic spectacle in the history of opera.
The musical genius that is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart based the mythic opera around Molière’s play ‘Don Giovanni’ and collaborated with Venetian opera librettist, poet and Roman Catholic priest Lorenzo Da Ponte.
First performed in Prague in 1787 by the 31-year-old composer, there is a reason this hugely dramatic Opera Buffa about a “Great lord yet wicked man” has remained a constant in theatre repertoire - it is a masterpiece among masterpieces.
