A Magical Desert Marathon Awaits

Whoever came up with the phrase “I’m not a racist, I love all races. Except marathons” had obviously never been to Petra, Jordan. The UNESCO world heritage site is home to one of the most challenging desert marathons on the planet, and while it certainly won’t be easy, the breathtaking views and historical surroundings will make every bead of sweat and every heel-cracking kilometre worth it. This is more than just a race. This is a voyage into the Old World.

A Race Through Time

Marathons are pretty long affairs. Depending on your fitness they can last anywhere between four and eight hours, so it helps to have something nice to look at along the way. “Nice” is to Petra what “pacey” is to Usain Bolt. The ancient city boasts a beautiful mixture of rock carved facades, mountain monasteries and extensive tunnels, which all provide the perfect backdrop as you gallop your way to glory. It’s a race like no other, and whether you finish first or last, you win regardless. The event forms part of a 5-day tour package which includes social events, tours, hotel accommodation, and a dip in the Dead Sea – clothing optional.

In Short:

  • Take a step back in time for a marathon which is simply unmatched
  • Explore Petra on your “day off” from racing
  • Swim and stay at the Dead Sea
  • Half-Marathon option for those still searching for their “inner-Kenyan”
