Why Reading Festival?

Ah, the great British summer: cricket in the park, Strongbow, frequent downpours and August bank holiday weekend!

Since 1961, Reading has marked the apex of the festival calendar for dishevelled rock n rollers. While some die-hards might lament the ‘good old days’, the festivals heavy rock roots have meshed well with an increasingly varied bill that now ranges from electro to punk.

Last year the torch was carried aloft by the likes of Muse, Major Laser and Bastille and this year promises an equally awesome lineup.

Watch out for the wild cards.

Even with mainstream acts on the bill, the overwhelming atmosphere is that of an anti-establishment kick in the teeth and the likes of Nirvana’s legendary ’92 performance will remain the undying legacy of this British festival institution. Reading is also committed to hosting a world-class selection of comedy and film, so you have a place to rest and notch up some cultural kudos in between mosh pits.

Each year it showcases a host of newcomers with something to prove and these wild cards are the ones who blow expectations out of the water.
