Why Run The Great Wall Marathon?
As Confucius probably once said “Whatever - you’ve seen one marathon, you’ve seen them all.” and here at Life of Riley, we understand his point. The landmarks of London, the streets of New York and the blocks of Boston all look pretty much the same. So imagine running the most challenging marathon of your life along one of mankind's greatest monuments - The Great Wall of China.
Since the inaugural Great Wall Marathon in 1999, the field has grown steadily to a sellout event with 2,500 runners from over 60 nations in the 2015 edition.
What's So Great About The Great Wall?
Offering three distances: a marathon, half marathon and a 8.5km Fun Run, the incredible Chinese landscape will whizz past as you climb thousands of cobblestoned step. Ornate Chinese flags will flutter in the wind as descend the undulating course.
You'll breathe the air of the Tianjin Province, feel thousands of years of history pounding beneath your feet and imagine crossing that finish line.
But be warned, this event is not for the amateur or faint-hearted - one lucky finisher described the full marathon as “Beautiful, painful and difficult. The most brutal race I have ever run. Loved it!"
