Arts, Crafts and Paradise on the Thread Caravan Panama!
If you've always thought that your previous sailing excursions around paradise have been... well... a little short of textiles, then the Thread Caravan Panama tour is the ideal bucket list vacation to add to your shortlist!
This breathtaking tropical voyage around paradise (a.k.a. Panama’s Guna Yala islands) puts the focus on more than just sightseeing. The purpose of this trip is to immerse yourself in a culture that many outsiders will never have heard of – the rather secretive Guna people.
In particular, the Guna women who know their way around a textile! With the Thread Caravan Panama tour, you get to spend one-on-one time with these legends, learning the tricks of the trade and how to make the famed mola textiles.
What Does It Entail?
This is a four-night journey of a lifetime, which begins with a stay in a boutique hotel in Panama City’s historic Casco Viejo neighbourhood, before setting sail for the Caribbean’s picturesque Guna Yala coastal region.
Here you will jump from island to island (not literally - unless you have seriously profound leg strength) and really connect with the local community. And whilst you learn about their culture and textile traditions, perhaps you can share a yarn or two of your own? (Because your granny used to make a mean Christmas jumper, even after half a bottle of cooking sherry - didn't she?).
Of course, there's ample er... material ... for some of the more traditional activities you would associate with sailing around paradise. Swimming, snorkelling and drinking wine on the beach.... hmmmm.
It all sounds top cloth, doesn't it? Far more rewarding and exotic than an arts and crafts lesson at your local community hall, that’s for sure!
