Daily life in Zanzibar, the island nation off the coast of Tanzania is pretty much the same all year. Coconut trees sway in the East African winds, kitesurfers surf the pristine beaches, market traders hustle with fishermen and fruit pickers for the best prices and everybody sleeps in a hammock Life is a breeze. Probably.
But for almost two weeks, every July, East Africa’s largest film, music and arts festival, brings together new talents and the most captivating and cutting-edge cinema from Africa and beyond - from World Premieres to local shorts, all entries will fall under the banner of this year’s theme ~ ‘Season of Visions’

Don’t let the serious title Zanzibar International Film Festival put you off - it’s not all about screenings within the ancient stone city - ZIFF also plays host to the island’s best parties as DJs and musicians from all over Africa and the international stage perform live music, dance and perform and carnival fever takes over the island for 2 weeks!
ZIFF is a truly local festival, with exhibitions, workshops, and cultural tours that take you to the heart of the community and always promises to be a hotbed of activity!
The final night is an awards night, where the winning films are recognised and celebrated and the entrants, organisers, film-lovers and tourists join together for a Zanzibar Tamasha!
